Muddy Moments (a short film)

They're all just Silent Era films

Charlie Chaplin on a bike

There’s something about autumn—the earthy trails, the leaves crunching under wheels, the crisp air carrying the scent of fallen foliage. And yet, there’s a downside to every joyride through the woods: what’s left on your bike once the ride ends. Mud clings to the frame, dust settles over gears, and that slick, grimy coating becomes a part of every surface.

This reel explores just that: the aftermath, the cleanup, the art of making things shine again. Enter the Via Ciclante staff, with tips on restoring order to your ride using the trusty Muc-Off line of cleaners and degreasers. They know that even the most rugged trails don’t justify a permanently rugged bike. After all, some things just aren’t meant to stay dirty.

And then there’s a four-legged friend who thinks otherwise. As the bike wash begins, the scene takes a turn, with a little comic relief from a reluctant bath-dodger. Somehow, this furry companion seems to understand that while the bike should gleam, perhaps she is just fine in her muddy state.

The reel itself feels like a nod to the silent film era—a time when stories played out in expressions and actions, with the piano trilling in the background. It makes you wonder if, in some ways, every Instagram reel is a silent film, a series of actions set to music, letting the visuals speak louder than words.

So, here’s to the autumn rides, to bikes that deserve a fresh start after every trail, and to the small, muddy moments that remind us not everything is meant to be spotless. Some things, after all, are better left to their own kind of messy charm.
