Azrieli Holocaust Survivor Memoirs page templates
Working on the Azrieli Holocaust Survivor Memoirs Program was a meaningful and technically challenging project that allowed me to contribute to an important cause. Established by the Azrieli Foundation in 2005, this program is dedicated to collecting, preserving, and sharing the memoirs and diaries of Holocaust survivors who came to Canada. The gravity of this mission made the design and development process particularly significant.
My role in this project involved building various page templates using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. The static mock-ups I was provided were extensive, offering detailed guidance on how the user experience should be structured. This included everything from the design of tabs and menus to the intricate details of hover and active states, button styles, and typography settings. The goal was to create a user interface that was both visually appealing and deeply respectful of the content it was presenting.
The design also included specific requirements for image galleries, social media links, and UI elements such as buttons and arrows. Each element had to be carefully crafted to ensure consistency across the site and provide a seamless experience for users exploring these important memoirs. The templates were built with meticulous attention to detail, ensuring that every interaction—whether it was clicking a button or hovering over a link—contributed to a cohesive and engaging user experience.
Once the templates were completed, they were handed off to another developer who integrated them into a custom WordPress theme. My work laid the foundation for a site that honors the memories of Holocaust survivors by making their stories accessible to a wide audience in a thoughtfully designed digital space.
This project was not only a technical achievement but also a deeply personal one, allowing me to contribute to the preservation of history through careful and respectful design. The Azrieli Holocaust Survivor Memoirs Program stands as a testament to the resilience and courage of those who survived the Holocaust, and it was a privilege to play a part in bringing their stories to the world.
